Enjoying the autumn sunshine out in her leafy garden, the owner of the house on Saturn Croft savours the serenity. Her mature garden offers her exceptional privacy and the opportunity to take in the fresh air while watching the birds in the trees and shrubs around her. “We liked this house when we first came to see it because it was a on a quiet road and yet set back from the other properties and tucked away slightly,” she recalls. “Because it has a proper front garden, as well as a rear garden, it feels very private and there are lovely green views from all windows in the house. The house itself is also a good size and I liked the fact that it had a spacious reception hall and a fireplace in the drawing room, which we knew we would be able to open up to enable us to have a real fire.”

Thought to date back to the late 1990s, the house was built on land which was once a carnation farm. Over the years it has been enhanced by the current owner and today it presents bright, airy rooms, with a fresh modern feel. “We carried out lots of work in the 13 years we were here,” she explains. “This has included changing the en suite shower room, updating the kitchen, replacing the windows and redecorating throughout. At one stage we were considering extending the house out to the side at ground-floor level, beside the kitchen, to create a new utility room. We did not ever do this, but I believe planning permission is still in place should new owners wish to look into it.”

The well-proportioned house provides good, family accommodation throughout. Entering from the front via the reception hall, it has a ground-floor cloakroom and then a large drawing room. “This is a lovely room in summer because it is so light and has doors that open on to the terrace and garden,” she says. “In winter, it becomes cosy and warm when the real fire is lit.” Double doors between the drawing room and dining room were removed by the owners to bring easy access between the spaces and making the whole back of the house ideal for entertaining. “There are still two distinctly different rooms but there is now a good flow between them,” she adds.

The kitchen, with its white units and work surface, is also conveniently positioned next to the dining room, with a door between. It can also be accessed from the hall and garden. “The kitchen is well designed and easy to use,” she agrees. All four bedrooms are up on the first floor of the house. Three of these share the family bathroom, while the master bedroom has an en suite shower room. “We turned the smallest bedroom onto an office, which worked well for us and still left plenty of space for accommodating guests,” she says. “All the bedrooms look out over either the front or back garden.”

Indeed, the gardens have been intrinsic to life at the Saturn Croft property, providing beautiful outdoor spaces to enjoy all year round. “We have done a lot of work outside, including extending the terrace in the back garden and planting out with many beautiful plants,” says the owner. “It is a lovely place to have barbecues with friends or to simply sit and watch the birds. We even have a visiting hedgehog.”

The surrounding area also offers wonderful outside spaces, such as Windsor Great Park, which dates back to pre-Saxon times and was used by William I as a hunting ground, in which to go walking. Today Windsor Great Park includes historical monuments, ancient forests and stunning horticultural displays, as well as rare wildlife and plants. It also takes in The Savill Garden, Virginia Water, The Valley Gardens and The Long Walk and Deer Park. “There is lots of choice when it comes to places to go for a walk,” says the owner. “This is also an excellent location for reaching Windsor, Ascot and Bracknell, for shopping, and for travelling into London and across the country from. I am moving now as I am relocating, but I will miss this lovely neighbourhood and my garden when I go. This house will make someone else a wonderful family home.”
