Significant portion (approximately 6,500 sq ft) of an important country house, offered with pre-planning approval for comprehensive renovation, providing the flexibility to create one substantial dwelling or two separate dwellings.
Adhurst St Mary was the vision of John Bonham Carter II, who in 1858 acquired over six hundred acres of woodland and farmland near Petersfield to establish a grand country estate. Drawing on land formerly known as Adhurst Wood and Eight Acres (later the site of the walled garden) Bonham Carter commissioned the distinguished architect Philip Charles Hardwick to design a house set within sweeping landscaped parkland.
During the First World War, the house was requisitioned and served as a military hospital, reflecting its role in the national war effort. Following the war, the estate returned to private ownership and remained with the Bonham Carter and Lubbock families for much of the twentieth century. In 1992, the house and grounds were sold and subdivided, marking the close of a notable chapter in the estate’s history.
East Court is situated a short distance from the village of Sheet, with its local pub and parish church, while the market town of Petersfield lies to the south-west. Petersfield offers a wide range of shops, restaurants, wine bars, pubs and supermarkets.
Recreational opportunities abound, with excellent golf courses at Petersfield, Hankley Common and Hindhead, and sailing at Hayling Island Sailing Club, located almost directly south at the end of the A3.
Petersfield Station: approx. 3 miles, with fast services to London Waterloo in just over an hour
A3: direct access to the M25 (Junction 10) and the south coast
Airports: convenient access to Heathrow, Gatwick and Southampton
The surrounding countryside provides outstanding opportunities for walking, riding and outdoor pursuits, and the area is well served by a range of respected private and state schools.
