Chloris Wood is an expansive broadleaf woodland with outstanding natural features, located just outside the popular village of Bruton.
The diversity of tree and plant species within the woodland is exceptional. Oak, beech, ash, birch, poplar, holly, hazel, hawthorn, blackthorn, cherry, alder, field maple, lime, elder, elm, crab apple, Norway spruce and yew are all present. In recent years, fruit trees including pear, apple and plum have been introduced. At lower levels, the understorey includes spindleberry, dogwood, wild rose, privet and viburnum.
The woodland benefits from a hard-stoned access track leading into the site, with ample space for parking a motorhome or caravan. From here, a network of woodland paths weaves throughout the site. Open glades have been thoughtfully created for camping and woodland activities, offering complete privacy. While navigation is straightforward, there are some steeper sections near the picturesque stream that runs through the wood. This stream supports a wealth of wildlife, including voles, roe deer and other woodland mammals.
Set well away from busy roads and with no public access, Chloris Wood offers true tranquillity and seclusion for those seeking an immersive escape into nature.
The nearby town of Bruton is just a few minutes away and offers excellent pubs, shops and restaurants, along with direct train links to London. The market town of Frome and the historic city of Bath are also easily accessible.
