The fascinating and quirky Grade II Listed this property was built in the late 1870s. It is set well back from the road, half hidden behind a flint and brick wall and features a triple arched veranda, gothic style arched windows, impressive chimneys, unusual bargeboards and pitched roof dormers and even the garage was built in the gothic style. While internally original features include high ceilings, ornate coving, dado and picture rails, panelled doors, high skirtings, wood flooring, sash windows with original shutters, built in cabinets and fireplaces.

Wrought iron gates lead to a parking area and the main entrance and a porch with double doors to the spacious reception hall. Double doors open into the nearly 30ft dual aspect drawing room with an impressive fireplace and three sets of original French doors opening onto the veranda. The adjacent dining room includes a gothic window, a cast iron fireplace, glass fronted cabinets and painted parquet flooring.

A hallway with a coloured glass arch provides access to the kitchen/breakfast room, utility room and cloakroom and from the hall steps lead to a storage area and the cellar that could be converted into a cinema/office/games room.

The galleried landing features a large lantern skylight and leads to the family bathroom and four double bedrooms, three of which have original fireplaces. There is one with dual aspect, a vaulted ceiling and a fitted cupboard, another has a built in wardrobe, while a third has an en suite shower. The principal has fitted cupboards, a vaulted ceiling. I have lived in Deal for nearly 20 years and, as an artist and designer, I was always attracted to this very individual property and was thrilled when it came up for sale about seven years ago. I thought it would be my ‘forever' home but I need to move nearer to my family.
The location is very convenient as there are local shops nearby, the seafront is easily accessible and the train station is only half a mile away with the high speed train to London taking under an hour and 20 minutes and it is only a short drive to Dover and Folkestone for the Continent.
There are shops, bars and restaurants along the Strand that includes the Downs Sailing Clubhouse. The Tides swimming pool complex is not far away and Deal is close by with its quaint streets, period properties, excellent restaurants, independent shops, Saturday market and historic pier.
There are the Kingsdown and Walmer and the Royal Cinque Ports golf clubs and very good primary schools in the area while a wide variety of excellent grammar and private schools are available in the nearby towns.
