Features and description

This one-bedroom apartment sits on the 11th floor of Luxborough Tower, a magnificent modernist building in Marylebone. The main living space is filled with natural light from expansive glazing, unfolding onto a wide balcony with arresting views of the city skyline. The apartment is brilliantly located within easy walking distance of some of London’s most iconic areas, including the West End, Oxford Street, Bond Street and Regent’s Park.

The Building

Luxborough Tower was designed by Hubert Bennett for the London County Council's Architect’s Department and completed in 1970. The 21-storey building was part of a larger redevelopment for the Regent Street Polytechnic (now the University of Westminster) and was originally built as social housing.

The tower is a fine example of the modernist style, with its striking white façade, ribbon glazing and full-width balconies. Its form was inspired by Le Corbusier’s ideas on modern living, namely the belief that apartments should be built in tall towers or ‘slabs’, with large balconies and green surroundings.

The Tour

A lift and communal stairwell provide access to this 11th-floor apartment. Inside, a bright entrance hall laid with solid timber floorboards has built-in storage.

The main living area is bathed in light from a glazed wall that opens onto a private balcony with spectacular panoramic views. On one side is the kitchen, with smart floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, an integrated Siemens wall oven and hob, and an island with fitted storage.

A serene double bedroom sits adjacent. Here, ribbon windows stretch across the wall, capturing arresting views. There is full-height storage here, as well as space for a desk. Finished with geometric and orange tiling, the neat bathroom is fitted with a timber-panelled bathtub with an overhead shower.

Outdoor Space

A peaceful south-facing balcony extends from the living area, with views that stretch towards the iconic BT Tower in the distance. Residents of Luxborough Tower also have access to leafy shared gardens, home to a variety of mature trees.

The Area

Luxborough Towers sits in the heart of Marylebone, within easy walking distance of Regent’s Park, Hyde Park and the West End. The area provides an excellent concentration of celebrated restaurants and bars, while the shops and boutiques of Bond Street and Oxford Street are within easy reach.

The Remedy wine bar, The Ginger Pig butchers and Daunt Books are local favourites. For dining out, the highly regarded Mielo, Mona’s and Alley Cats Pizza are all close by. For shopping, Selfridges is a 15-minute walk away on Oxford Street, with Liberty, Carnaby Street and Savile Row only slightly further afield.

The apartment is exceptionally well located for the delights of the West End. Soho Theatre and the London Palladium are within walking distance, as are the Prince Edward, Palace and Sondheim theatres. For cinephiles, the Baker Street Everyman is an eight-minute walk away.

Several excellent museums and galleries are found in the area, including The Brown Collection, The Wallace Collection and the Moco Museum.

There are myriad transport links nearby. Baker Street Underground station is a seven-minute walk away, and is served by the Bakerloo, Circle, Hammersmith & City, Jubilee and Metropolitan lines. Marylebone station has connections to the National Rail service as well as the Bakerloo line, while Bond Street and Oxford Circus stations are also close by.
