Features and description

Ken MacDonald & co are excited to present to the market this croft tenancy extending to approximately 12.5 acres, situated in the traditional crofting township of South Bragar.

Sale is subject to Crofting Commission approval.

The croft runs from an elevated position off the upper village road, down to the foreshore and is bisected by the lower village road, providing multiple vehicular access points and gated access onto the machair. There are natural watercourses running through the croft, including its own spring, and a network of drainage channels. Internal post and wire fencing has been erected within the croft to partition areas for pasture, livestock and poultry management purposes.

In the upper croft, around 500 native trees and bushes have been planted to provide shelter belts for both stock and horticulture. Horticultural developments have included a polytunnel, with addi-tional windbreak, vegetable plots and a variety of soft fruit bushes. There is a block built shed, a small corrugated iron machinery shelter and a roofless blackhouse that has been partially re-roofed to provide some shelter for storage and lambing.

At the roadside in the lower croft, there remain the walls of another blackhouse which, with the ready availability of services, offers the practical potential for further construction, renovation or diversification projects. Further down the lower croft, there are two drystone wall enclosures, providing shelter for stock and seasonal vegetable growing.

The mosaic of habitats, use of only natural fertilisers (seaweed, manure, compost), minimal graz-ing and avoidance of herbicides and pesticides have sustained and encouraged a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna across the croft.

The house at 27 South Bragar is also available
