Woodland
Key information
Features and description
- Secluded woodland set just below the Norfolk Coast AONB.
- Seasonal stream and year round vehicle access.
- This woodland is not suitable for residential use.
Wool Wood is a beautifully secluded woodland, rich in contrast and character, set just below the Norfolk Coast AONB.
At its lower levels, a seasonal stream winds from west to east, fringed by willow, hazel, oak, birch, laurel, and holly. Small footbridges cross the stream and the nearby ditch. Watch your step, as frogs are a common sight in these damp spots.
Winding woodland paths climb to higher ground, where the landscape shifts. Here, western hemlock, Scots pine, and red cedar dominate the landscape, interspersed with the occasional oak and sycamore.
A large, flat clearing provides an ideal camping area—perfect for families looking to unwind in the warmer months and soak up the peace and quiet. Sunlight streams through open glades, brightening the woodland throughout the day.
Wool Wood also supports an abundance of wildlife, with hares, roe deer, and muntjac frequently spotted among the trees.
Nearby, the villages of Cawston to the west and Aylsham to the east offer welcoming pubs and local amenities. For a change of scenery, the coastal town of Cromer and the stunning Norfolk coastline are just a 20-minute drive away.
The ward is Aylsham, and the County Council is Norfolk
