Unique riverside residence, set above the River Dart, with stunning river views and convenient access to Dartmouth.

Description

Bell Cottage is a truly unique coastal residence, nestled into the tranquil banks of the River Dart located on South Town providing easy access to Dartmouth town centre. Originally serving as a coach house to a nearby manor, the property has been carefully converted and extended over time, now offering a beautifully arranged four-storey layout that maximises both space and uninterrupted river views.

The entrance to the property is set behind two impressive stone pillars and a wooden gate, leading into a glazed porch laid with terracotta tiles. From here, a door opens into the spacious kitchen/dining room, featuring dove grey shaker-style cabinetry, exposed beams and a delightful fireplace. River-facing windows flood the space with natural light and offer captivating views of the water.

Upstairs, the former hayloft has been transformed into a characterful living room, complete with bespoke built-in storage and a thoughtfully placed window seat, the perfect place to unwind and observe the river life.

On the lower floors are two generous bedroom suites, each with its own walk-in wardrobe and en suite bath or shower room. The principal suite occupies its own floor and is tastefully presented with elegant décor and enjoys stunning estuary views. The second bedroom, on the garden level, benefits from French doors that open onto a private stone terrace, ideal for morning coffee or evening drinks with a view.

Also on the garden level is a conservatory with arched recess, currently used as a second dining area, offering a warm and inviting space to enjoy the outlook in all seasons. An additional terrace, ideal for barbecues and outdoor entertaining, adjoins the conservatory both providing panoramic views of the River Dart. There is off road parking for one small car to the left of the gated access from South Town.

Location

Dartmouth is a picturesque waterside town, on the South Devon coastline, known for its rich maritime history and stunning river views. Situated on the banks of the River Dart, it features charming cobbled streets, historic buildings, and vibrant waterfront areas. The town has a strong connection to the sea, with a history that dates back to medieval times when it was a key port for naval ships.

The town’s deep-water port attracts sailing vessels from all over the world and is considered to be one of the prettiest in Europe. Visitors to Dartmouth can explore a variety of attractions, including the Dartmouth Castle, which offers fascinating insights into its defensive history. The town is also home to the Britannia Royal Naval College, known for its impressive architecture. Additionally, you can enjoy scenic walks along the river and in the nearby South Hams area, renowned for its beautiful countryside and coastlines.

Dartmouth hosts several events throughout the year, such as the Dartmouth Food Festival and the Royal Regatta, drawing crowds from near and far. The local dining scene boasts plenty of seafood restaurants and eateries that highlight the region's culinary delights. Overall, Dartmouth is a charming destination that offers a blend of natural beauty, history, and culture.
