Combining character and charm, this converted Methodist Chapel surprisingly means no compromise on a modern layout.

Although an imposing building on one of the village's original roads, you'd be forgiven for missing the The Chapel House completely due to it's elevated position behind mature hedges. This means a remarkably private plot, especially in the wrap-around garden where you'll be hard-pressed to find an overlooking window from a neighbouring home.

Although dating back to 1864, The Chapel House has a driveway for four cars as well as a detached double garage. Although the original entrance remains, the new front door is located in the single-storey side extension.

This extension was carried out in 1934 when the Chapel was still being used for village services such as a Sunday School, which means that it was designed with matching architecture to the original Chapel building. This results in a gorgeous vaulted entrance hall with what is believed to be reclaimed wood from the original Chapel lining the ceiling.

Turning left takes you into the 1864 building where the surprises continue. Designed as a library as part of the planning application, you have a galleried space with built-in bookcases and the most beautiful tall, arched window allowing floods of light in from the south-facing aspect. The current owners admit this is one of their favourite spaces in the home and regularly use as a spot for a morning coffee and afternoon tea break.

Off this space is a well-proportioned home office (which stays cool thanks to it being on the west aspect of the house), and a really useful second reception room. This room adds great versatility to this home, and could be anything from a playroom, snug, music room, or even a downstairs bedroom.

Next door is the beating heart of this home; the kitchen/dining/family room. This L-shaped space is something most crave for in more modern homes, so to find it in a home of this nature is a blessing. Since buying, the owners realised this space was large enough for a dedicated seating area, and so had a log burner installed making it a family favourite all year round. The kitchen is in a country-style to suit the age of the home, and offers an ample amount of solid wood worktops. There is a range cooker, double Belfast sink and useful breakfast bar separating the kitchen space from the dining area.

Double doors lead out to a sunny part of the garden, making the perfect entertaining area. Whether it be a space for alfresco dining, bbqing or even a space for the children to play, this section of garden is completely private and soaks up the sun from early morning until late afternoon. The garden wraps around the building and means you can follow the sun until the early evening. As you follow the garden around, you'll find a further door that leads to a utility room which is also accessed off the kitchen and the hallway. Next door to the utility is a WC.

At the other end of The Chapel House is the formal living room. Same as the entrance hall, this room is vaulted and offers more character features. This room really feels separate to the rest of the house making it a quieter space to retire to in the evening - the gas fire place makes this room particularly appealing in colder months. There are further double doors that lead to the south-facing section of the garden where you'll find a decked area. The covered pergola is a clue that this space captures the sun all day and into the early evening, making it the perfect spot for an evening drink with guests, or after the children have gone to bed.

Upstairs you get to fully appreciate the grandeur of the galleried landing overlooking the library. The original lectern from the Chapel is located on the landing and creates a natural place to stop and admire the home around you. There are four bedrooms in total.

The main bedroom is at the front of the home and so has the large arched windows you can see from the front of the house. There is a large amount of built-in wardrobes as well as an ensuite. Next door is the third bedroom which is a double and also benefits from the arched windows.

The second bedroom also has built-in wardrobes and is a generous size, and even the fourth bedroom can fit a double bed. The family bathroom is fully tiled and has an overhead shower, heated towel rail and all-important window.

Needless to say The Chapel House is guaranteed to surprise and delight, and offers the opportunity to be a part of local history in a well-equipped village that offers catchment to The Royal Latin Grammar School.
