Description

Fantastically situated to maximise its magnificent views, The Old Vicarage is a former clergy house that has undergone an extensive programme of renovations by the vendor. No expense has been spared in upgrading this highly individual home, and one can expect all the usual modern conveniences such as a bespoke kitchen with high end appliances, underfloor heating and attractive bathrooms, as well as a variety of luxurious additions: on the lower ground floor there is a full commercial-standard gym with sauna and steam room; the principal suite has its own dressing room with backlit shelving and extensive cabinetry; and on the top floor there is a games room and home cinema.

The house is not listed yet perfectly marries the original character features with contemporary improvements: Crittal-style bifold doors complement stone mullioned windows, original fireplaces accommodate modern wood-burning stoves, and the recent extension is a vision of glass and oak, suffusing the open plan kitchen with natural light. The layout has been thoughtfully configured to provide a number of spaces for entertaining, and there are two generous reception rooms at the front of the house, in addition to the wonderfully welcoming kitchen/dining/family room with its adjoining utility room and walk-in pantry. The first floor has the principal suite with en suite shower room and dressing room; an en suite guest bedroom with sitting room and bath/shower room; a further double bedroom; and a family shower room. On the top floor there is the games room and cinema, as well as a home office, cloakroom and useful loft storage.

Outside
On a prime road between the plentiful amenities of both Whiteshill and Stroud, The Old Vicarage sits in an elevated position with magnificent views to the rear over the lush, gently rolling valley of Ruscombe Brook. The area is renowned for its natural beauty and is crossed by an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways, accessible from the doorstep.

The house is well screened from the road by mature trees and accessed via a private driveway which leads down to sizeable parking areas to the front – where there is also a detached garage – and the rear. The front elevations of the house are particularly impressive, with imposing chimneys and attractive stonework.

The house sits side-on to the magnificent gardens, which are west facing and landscaped over several tiers which drop down towards the valley: this allows stunning, uninterrupted views over the open countryside beyond from all levels. The uppermost level is a walled terrace which spans the west side of the house, providing seating areas for alfresco dining. Below this there are two tiers of lawned garden, bordered to either side by well-established trees creating natural privacy. The borders support a variety of shrubs and there is a sizeable pond set within a large terrace.
