A stunning conversion of a former Methodist chapel on the edge of a quaint Yorkshire village.

Description

This stunning former Methodist Chapel has been exquisitely restored and thoughtfully reimagined into a captivating home, rich with original character and charm.

Spanning nearly 2,900 square feet, this impressive conversion offers spacious accommodation mainly over two floors whilst enjoying an open plan feel and making the most of its ecclesiastical features.

Upon entering, there is a welcoming entrance hall which leads through to the magnificent sitting room with vaulted ceilings and large decorative windows bathing the space in natural light. A raised dining area has been created within the chapels original pulpit, which has again been meticulously restored and serves as an incredible centerpiece for entertaining.

The bespoke kitchen is equipped with an Aga, high-end Miele appliances, a wine cooler and a traditional Belfast double sink. Adjacent to the kitchen, a practical utility room has been created. The ground floor accommodation also boasts two spacious bedrooms, each complemented by contemporary en suite bathrooms. Off the sitting room is a shower room with an infra-red sauna completing the ground floor accommodation.

A bespoke and ornate spiral staircase, crafted from the chapel’s original pews, leads to the first floor with two additional bedrooms. Both bedrooms benefit from dressing rooms and luxurious bathrooms, featuring stunning freestanding roll-top, claw-foot baths.

Outside, the property is accessed via a shared driveway, owned by the Chapel, leading to the patio area and lawned gardens, ideal for al fresco dining.

Additionally, the property includes a self-contained one bedroom annexe, named The Cow Shed, providing versatile accommodation options.

Location

Harome is one of the prettiest and most sought after North Yorkshire’s villages, and in 2023 this tiny village was named one of the 'poshest' in the UK by The Times. Set at the foot of the Moors and around 2 miles east of the popular market town of Helmsley and 24 miles north-east of York. It is home to The Star Inn, with its Michelin Starred Restaurant with country hotel. Elsewhere are several listed buildings and an idyllic duck pond, overlooked by the award winning Pheasant Hotel.

Just over two miles away is the award winning Beadlam Grange Farmshop and Tea room with a butchers, delicatessen and greengrocery including a toddler play area.

Helmsley (2.7 miles) is a fabulous town with a weekly market and an excellent selection of independent, local shops including clothes stores, a doctor’s surgery, delicatessens, cafes, restaurants, hotels, a spa and a local brewery. In addition there is an arts centre showing films and plays, as well as hosting yoga, exhibitions and concerts. Further attractions are the open air swimming pool, Helmsley Walled Garden, International Centre for Birds of Prey, Helmsley Castle and Duncombe Park.

Kirkbymoorside (5.3 miles), provides a good range of shops, a weekly market, cafes, public houses, primary school (Academy), a doctors surgery, cricket, bowling squash clubs as well as an 18 hole golf course.

Further afield is the Michelin starred restaurant, The Black Swan, Oldstead (10.6 miles).

The market town of Malton (14 miles) is now the artisan food capital of North Yorkshire with its award-winning monthly food and farmers markets, as well as a weekly market, and annual Food Lovers’ Festival backed by excellent local shops. There are supermarkets, two breweries, restaurants, the Talbot Hotel, cookery school, tearooms, a cinema, theatre and Castle Gardens five acres of park. Malton and Norton golf club boasts 27 holes and situated about a mile outside Malton. In addition there is Malton Secondary School (Ofsted Good 2023) located on Middlecave Road.

The historic market town of Pickering (12 miles) is known as the gateway to the Moors. The town boasts a number of public houses, supermarkets, leisure and sport facilities, local independent shops and cafes as well as a 13th century castle, the North York Moors steam railway and a museum.

Dalby Forest is about 18 miles distant with countless walks and cycle trails through stunning scenery, an adventure course and on site cafe. A dark sky discovery site, it is an excellent location for stargazing.

The A170 from Helmsley links to Scarborough and the Yorkshire Coast.

York is about 25 miles to the south and the A1(M) is about 22 miles to the west. Direct trains to London run regularly from Malton, Thirsk (16.6 miles) and York, some making the journey in under two hours.
