What the owner says: My family has lived in this house for 25 years and it has been a wonderful location for us. My two children have loved living so centrally; they walk everywhere, which has given them the independence that comes with living so centrally. Time Out magazine recently rated the London Road area as the fourth coolest neighbourhood in the UK. London Road's proximity to Brighton Station (a mere 10-minute walk), not-that-soulless regeneration projects plus the very, very gradual cropping-up of some really cool bars, coffee spots and gig venues, means I almost always take out-of-town friends here to explore. A couple of local institutions are still going strong - have a gander around the Open Market before catching a screening at the Duke of York's cinema - but newer must-tries include Curio for cocktails, Amari or Mogu Mogu for dinner, and Presuming Ed's for commute. Time Out tip: Brighton's best pizza is in London Road at Fatto A Mano, but you can get equally good one just over the road at Unbarred Taproom - a brewery and bar with funky craft beers. We are in the catchment for desirable schools including Downs for primary education and Varndean and Dorothy Stringer for secondary schools. They are all within walking distance. MThe house is a 10 min walk from Brighton station and less to London Road station. It is a five min walk from the skate park and paddling pool of the Level and 10 mins from the famous North Laine. The seafront is a 20 minute stroll away. Shaftesbury Road is a lovely street, with a great community. One Friday afternoon every month, part of the road is closed to cars so the children can play and make friends. There is a street WhatsApp group that fosters a sense of community support. The topics are varied but we have benefited from free plants from a neighbour's allotment and enjoyed discussions about what's visible in the night sky.
