Delightful traditional family house on desirable residential street

Description

Hazelwood is a detached C Listed family home of considerable character. The house dates from around Circa 1890 and offers 2400 sq ft of accommodation over two levels.
The driveway is accessed from Charlotte Street and leads around the secluded gardens with parking to the front.

The accommodation begins with a flight of stone steps leading to the storm doors into the entrance vestibule. The reception hallway gives access to the drawing room, dining room, kitchen, sitting room (bedroom 4/office), utility and WC.

The drawing room is to the front with a bay window looking onto the garden and a feature fireplace and press cupboard. The formal dining room also has a striking period fireplace and a dual aspect to the garden. The family kitchen is fitted with a range of floor and wall units, and has plenty of space for a breakfast table and dresser. There is a door to the spacious rear utility room as well as a door to the rear garden.

From the main hallway a fine original staircase with ornate handrail and balustrade leads to the first floor with a large window at the half landing point.

Off the first floor landing are three bedrooms, the principal with en suite shower room (which can also be accessed from the landing). There is lift access from the ground floor. There are two further good sized bedrooms and the main family bathroom is also on this level.

The gardens at Hazelwood are very private with mature trees all around, and lawns to the front and rear. There are various outbuildings.

Location

Hazelwood is situated in the conservation town of Helensburgh on popular Charlotte Street.

Helensburgh has been regarded as one of the west of Scotland’s most desirable towns for well over a century since wealthy Glasgow merchants first began to build houses here. It offers excellent amenities including golf, specialist shopping and supermarkets. There are several local primary and secondary schools and Lomond School provides private education for day pupils and boarders. Further private schooling is easily accessible in Glasgow which can be reached by rail with a journey time of around 45 minutes.

There are a number of respected golf courses in the area, including Loch Lomond Golf Course. Other golf courses include Helensburgh, Cardross and Carrick Golf Club and spa. There are several clubs and societies in Helensburgh offering a wide array of sports and outdoor pursuits. Helensburgh is well placed for commuting to Glasgow with the A814, A82 and M8 allowing a journey time of less than an hour in normal driving conditions. Glasgow Airport is around 24 miles distant and offers a variety of regular domestic and international flights. Helensburgh is surrounded by some of the finest countryside in Scotland, with Loch Lomond, part of Scotland’s first National Park, in close proximity.

Helensburgh is situated at the mouth of the Gareloch on the north side of the Firth of Clyde which has earned a worldwide reputation for its challenging sailing. The neighbouring village of Rhu offers a marina.
