While Scots pine dominates the landscape, the woodland is also home to oak, birch, rowan, chestnut, Norway spruce, Amelanchier (snowy mespilis), honeysuckle and holly. The woodland floor is covered predominantly by bilberry and heather, with a variety of mosses and broom. Public access is permitted, but only on well-defined footpaths.

As part of the larger Bourne Woods, Sable Wood serves as an essential wildlife corridor for fauna including roe deer, muntjac, fox, owls, bats, badger and smaller prey species wood mouse and field vole. The area has a rich reptile and amphibian population including adder, grass snake, common toad and frog, common lizard and slow-worm, and supports a diversity of insects, fungi and lichen. A wide range of woodland birds inhabit the wood including woodpecker, goldcrest, nuthatch, treecreeper, cuckoo and owl.

Nearby, the Lower Bourne recreation ground offers a welcoming café and pub within walking distance. A short drive away, the charming market town of Farnham provides shops, restaurants, and a train station. With easy access to the A3, London is just over an hour away.

Boundaries: The boundary is fenced on three sides apart from access routes. The woodland borders private land and neighbouring Forestry Commission woodland.

Access: Access is on foot only but vehicle access is possible for management purposes. Parking is possible at the entrance within the woodland.
