The Hambleton peninsula juts out into Rutland Water, a man-made reservoir, maintained by Anglian Water, that was created in 1975 by the damming of The Gwash Valley. The ridge of land that marked the tide line is the Hambleton peninsula, which is a unique slice of Rutland countryside almost entirely surrounded by the beautiful Rutland water.

The peninsula is highly sought after and is a mecca for wildlife, particularly birds, being a tranquil and undisturbed slice of rural England. Rutland Water also provides stunning walks, sailing and fishing.
