Wombourne is a large village and civil parish located in the district of South Staffordshire. It is 4 miles south-west of Wolverhampton.

The Bratch is an area of Wombourne is located just north of the village and is noted for its industrial heritage and more recently as a way station for walkers, riders and cyclists. Formerly, it was a small, separate hamlet, and became fully absorbed into Wombourne only in the 20th century. 

The cottage is located on the north side of Bratch Lane by Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal adjoining Bratch Lock.
