Amble and The Northumberland Coast
Historic castles, sand-dunes, bird sanctuaries, unspoilt beaches and small coastal communities all help to characterise the beautiful Northumbrian coastline. All around Amble are reminders of an ancient past and people - Holy Island, the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and a battle-scarred history between Picts and Scots. Much of the coastline to the north and south of Amble has been designated ‘Heritage Coast’ and an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. It is also within easy reach of the Cheviot Hills and the historic town of Alnwick along with excellent
commuter connections from Alnmouth Station.

Peace and quiet are in abundance for those who like open space but there’s activity too. Watersports for instance, you can sail a yacht from Amble or one of the many other
harbours and inlets on the coast. Windsurfing, water skiing and diving among the wrecks off the Farne Islands are also popular. For those who enjoy the experience of horse riding, cycling or walking it would be difficult to find anywhere better. Amazingly, all of this is just off the A1 connecting London and Edinburgh but largely unknown to the thousands who drive past England’s ‘best kept secret’ every day. Alnmouth Station is less than four hours from London and less than one hour from Edinburgh.
