Features and description

  • 4 Bedrooms
  • 3 Reception rooms
  • Very convenient small village
  • Excellent southerly views
  • Pretty gardens
  • Double garage with home office above
The property comprises the original period stone cottage which has been extended a number of times to create a well-proportioned house. The rooms are a good size and are conveniently laid out off a central hall. The drawing room is especially light, with French windows to the garden, a gas fire and superb southerly views towards the Westbury and Salisbury Plain. The sitting room and dining room are both a good size and the former has a woodburning stove. The kitchen re-fitted by the current owner about 10 years ago. It has an Aga and a door to the garden. On the first floor the main bedroom has a dressing area and en suite bathroom and excellent views. There are three further double bedrooms (one used as a study) and a second bathroom.

On the west side of the house is a large gravelled parking area. Adjoining this is a double garage, with exterior steps leading up a useful Home Office with a separate cloakroom. To the rear is a shed and greenhouse. The gardens are mainly walled and comprise two separate areas. The larger is to the south of the house, with lawns, mixed borders and ornamental trees including a fine magnolia. There is a pond at one end and wonderful views.

Chapel Plaister is an attractive small hamlet of mainly period houses and cottages, together with a small 13th century chapel. Nearby Corsham (3 miles) caters for most everyday requirements with the Georgian city of Bath being about 8 miles. Bath has first class shopping and cultural facilities. Communications are good, with Chippenham Station (7 miles) having direct services to Paddington from just over an hour. Junction 17 of the M4 is about 10 miles. An excellent choice of both private and state schools in the area.
