A fabulous, detached family home with extensive gardens and exquisite water views

Description

Dating back to the mid-1800’s, this former Station Master’s house is a fabulous example of a generous Victorian detached home in one of the most sought after locations in the South West.

Occupying an elevated position at the head of Waterhead Creek, Waterhead House benefits not only from a wonderful degree of privacy but also exquisite views over the creek to the River Dart and Dartmouth beyond.

Having been renovated and extended by the current owners, Waterhead House is bright and spacious throughout and offers versatile, modern family living while retaining all of the period charm and elegance you would expect from a house of this era.

Stepping through the front door into the generous entrance hall really sets the tone for what is to come with high ceilings, large sash windows and feature fireplaces. The entrance hall is indeed generous enough to be used as an additional snug or a formal dining room. Beyond this are the main reception rooms with the kitchen/breakfast room providing the real “wow” factor with vaulted ceiling and fabulous views, this is clearly the heart of the home.

The well-equipped kitchen is integrated with a range of appliances including a Miele steam oven, microwave, five-ring hob and coffee machine, large SMEG oven, dishwasher and American-style fridge/freezer. A fabulous dining and seating area compliments the kitchen with wonderful views over the gardens, surrounding valley and down the creek to the River Dart and Dartmouth beyond. A feature wood burner gives it a wonderful, cosy feel while the glazed door to the decked terrace creates an extension of the living space and is the perfect spot for morning coffee or a sundowner. Adjacent to the kitchen is a convenient utility room with space for laundry equipment and access to outside.

Flowing beautifully from the kitchen is the fabulous, full width living room. Two sets of full height French doors not only provide wonderful views but flood the room with natural light and provide access to the covered veranda and decked terrace. Beyond the main living area, there is also a family room / study /snug as well as a cloakroom and storage.

The first floor provides three generous double bedrooms, two of which benefit from built in wardrobes as well large sash windows providing fabulous views over the creek to Dartmouth. There is also a smaller double bedroom / study on this floor as well as a family bathroom and separate cloakroom.

The second floor is dedicated to the impressive principal bedroom suite which benefits from a full-width glazed gable with French doors to a covered, decked balcony which maximises the wonderful views. This fabulous bedroom is complimented by a dressing area / study as well as an en suite shower room.

Gardens and Grounds
Approached over a sweeping drive, Waterhead House sits in around half an acre of mature, tranquil gardens which offer a wonderful degree of privacy and seclusion.

The elevated position provides stunning views over the surrounding valley, Waterhead Creek, the River Dart and Dartmouth.

Immediately outside the main living areas is a fabulous, full width decked terrace with covered veranda which not only provides the perfect spot for al fresco dining and relaxing but also provides the perfect vantage point to enjoy the surroundings.

Beyond this there are pathways which meander through the terraced gardens of mature shrubs and plants. To one side, there is a paved terrace with a garden shed which can also be accessed from the utility room whilst to the other, there is a paved and lawned area with steps to the gravelled parking which can accommodate a number of vehicles.
