The A68 and A7 provide quick access to the city centre (30 minutes on a clear run), the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720) and the international airport. The Borders Railway provides easy access from nearby Gorebridge to Edinburgh Waverley and the Scottish Borders.

There are local shops, primary schools and medical centres in the nearby villages of Pathhead and Gorebridge and extensive and varied out of town retail parks at Straiton and Fort Kinnaird.

There are various independent schools within easy reach, including Merchiston Castle, George Watson's and Loretto.

Edinburgh and the Lothians have a wealth of cultural and leisure facilities ranging from theatres, museums and art galleries in the city to the world famous golf courses on the coast. The Pentland, Lammermuir and Moorfoot Hills all provide excellent hill walking and nearby Vogrie Country Park has a 9 hole golf course, extensive parkland grounds, woodland walks and a large children's playpark.
