Location

Stables Cottage is situated on the eastern edge of Dunkeld on Brae Street which is a pretty, leafy lane that leads from the hillside to the east of Dunkeld into the town centre. Being near the top of Brae Street and facing south, Stables Cottage enjoys lots of light and sunshine. The house is only 300 metres from the centre of town. Dunkeld is one of Perthshire’s most sought after and scenic towns. It is known for its historic cathedral, its iconic bridge over the Tay, its links with Beatrix Potter, its ancient oak trees and its rich musical heritage.

There are some fabulous walking and cycling paths near Stables Cottage; these include The Hermitage (an 18th century woodland pleasure ground created for the Dukes of Atholl), riverside paths and some challenging mountain bike tracks. Lochs Tay and Tummel as well as munros Schiehallion and Ben Lawers are all within easy reach to the west. Stables Cottage is only 36 miles from Glenshee ski centre. Just 2 miles north of Dunkeld is the Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve at Loch of the Lowes (famous for ospreys) as well as an 18-hole golf course.

Dunkeld has become known for its specialist shops and cafés which include a delicatessen, an artisan bakery, a smokery and two riverside pubs with beer gardens. The town also has a selection of art galleries and independent shops. Perth, which is 14 miles south, has high street shops and professional services as well as a concert hall, theatre, museums and several leisure centres. In addition to the Royal School of Dunkeld, there are a number of state and private schools within easy driving distance of Stables Cottage.

The property is well placed for access to Perth and Edinburgh via the A9, and Edinburgh Airport is about 55 miles away. A sleeper service runs from Dunkeld train station directly to London. All distances and travel times are approximate.

Directions

If entering Dunkeld from the A9, cross the bridge, drive into the centre of the town and take the second turning on the right which leads up a steep hill. Stables Cottage is on the left after about 300m. If approaching from Blairgowrie, follow the A984 and turn right onto Brae Street about three quarters of a mile before reaching Dunkeld. Stables Cottage is reached after about half a mile.
