A detached chalet style house originally built in the 1950's and substantially extended and improved some ten years later. Home to the late singer and ‘forces sweetheart’ Dame Vera Lynn for over 60 years, the property stands back from Common Lane with commanding views across its own 7.5 acre plot. The accommodation is particularly spacious having been enlarged by the owners on the ground floor and then converting the upper parts some year later to allow for dependant relative living on the first floor. The property is approached from a main entrance from Common Road, although there is a second access point a little further along the road. The main gardens surround the house and extend to about 3 acres with a further field area to the east of some 4.5 acres. The property has a detached garage and workshop, heated outdoor swimming pool with changing room and outdoor kitchen. The gardens are essentially laid to lawn with a number of mature specimen trees. A public bridleway runs along the eastern boundary. There is huge potential to enhance the property or further extend, subject to planning consent. The property and its neighbours, fall within the South Downs National Park. Ditchling High Street is about a quarter of a mile to the south and can be accessed along the pavement outside. Here there is a selection of specialist shops, post office, two pub/restaurants, village hall, pharmacy among others. Ditchling has a thriving primary school, cricket and rugby club, a number of vineyards and access to the beautiful National Park along part of the famous South Downs. Hassocks mainline station is 5 minutes drive, with Brighton some 20 minutes and the A23 London to Brighton motorway about 10 - 15 minutes drive to the west. Council Tax Band H. Lewes District Council. EPC Rating D. Mains gas central heating. Private drainage. "What the vendor says" '

'My parents lived in this house for over 60 years and loved it. The inside of the house is very spacious and can easily be adapted to one's own specific needs. It also has a wonderful feeling of space outside, with a garden full of lovely flowers, lots of trees and wildlife, and we often have deer come into the grounds as well. We have a great view to the Downs and there are lots of walks around here for people with dogs. Also of course the field can accommodate horses and ponies. Our neighbours are charming and very friendly and kind. The house is also only about ten minutes walk to the centre of the village.'
