The estate has had a long and colourful history having undergone many uses over the years including a convalescence hospital during the war, a girls' boarding school and a convent. The abbey, nuns' dormitory block, stables and estate offices were converted into residential units in the early 1980’s. The mid 19th Century stable yard and estate offices were skilfully divided into eight individually designed dwellings with a cloister, forming a quadrangle garden inset with an ornamental fountain. 2 Abbey Mews is one of the principal homes accessed through the southern coach arch.
