Lochside Cottage is situated just outside the village of Balmaclellan which offers a village shop and community arts centre known as “The Smiddy”. Dumfries, about 22 miles distant, is the principal town in the area, and provides a wider range of schools, shops, retail outlets and other services including the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. Also in Dumfries there is the Crichton Campus providing further and higher education courses, as well as the multi-million pound sports and Leisure complex DG One offering a variety of events including theatre, cultural events, conferences and concerts.
