Pretty rural cottage in stunning west coast location.

Description

Located in a quiet rural hamlet, North Cottage is a charming, renovated stone built cottage with a modern extension and wonderful uninterrupted panoramic views of the Kilbrannan Sound looking towards the Isle of Arran.

From the road, white gates open onto the drive for North Cottage, with plenty of parking to the rear and side of the property.

The accommodation begins with an entrance vestibule which opens into a bright hallway. To the right is a family room with double height vaulted ceiling with velux windows and double fronted wood burning stove. From here is the recently added extension: a spacious bright, welcoming sitting room with timber beamed ceiling, wood burning stove, and glazed sliding doors showcasing the wonderful views.

From the hallway to the left is a downstairs double bedroom with window to the rear. The dining kitchen is a lovely light space with floor and wall cabinets, integrated fridge and freezer, terracotta tiled floor and a range cooker. Front facing, again the views take centre stage and there is plenty of room for a large table and chairs. From the kitchen there is access to a rear hallway with utility, bathroom and sauna.

From the family room there are stairs to the upper mezzanine floor and to the open plan principal double bedroom with velux windows.

The grounds around North Cottage are mainly lawned, with a planted wildflower meadow with various trees and shrubs; there are outbuildings including a small summerhouse, artist’s studio and woodshed.

Location

North Cottage is situated in the small hamlet of Crossaig on the Kintyre Peninsula on the west coast of Scotland, just over 12 miles south of the bustling port of Tarbert. The cottage has breathtaking panoramic sea views of the Sound of Kilbrannan and the Isle of Arran. Located mid-way between the historic village of Skipness and the white sands of Carradale bay, North Cottage benefits from a commanding position overlooking Crossaig bay where otters, seals and dolphins can be regularly observed. Nearby Skipness is probably best known for its famous 16th century castle, but more recently the Seafood Cabin restaurant and smokehouse have attracted UK-wide attention with reviews featuring in the national press. The wider area has a wealth of historic sites including the 13th century Kilbrannan Chapel, Kilmartin Glen and Dunadd Fort where the ancient Kings of Scotland were crowned.

The mull of Kintyre offers many leisure activities, for those who enjoy walking and the outdoors, the newly opened Kintyre Way begins at the top of the Corranbuie trail near Tarbert and takes in stunning views of Loch Fyne and the Isle of Arran before it enters Skipness and makes its way towards Crossaig. In addition to hosting many music and art festivals, Tarbert is a popular sailing destination and is home to the Bell Lawrie Scottish Series regatta every year. A short ferry hop takes you to Portavadie Marina and Spa where visitors can enjoy an outdoor pool and jacuzzi. For golfers, the renowned Machrihanish golf course is some 35 miles away near Campbeltown and there are scenic nine-hole courses at Tarbert and Carradale.

Tarbert offers a larger range of amenities and professional services. The local Coop supermarket, butchers and fishmonger also offer a home delivery service. A bus service connects Skipness to Tarbert, and a ferry service (summer only) from Claonaig provides a 30 minute crossing to Lochranza on the Isle of Arran. North cottage is also well serviced by ferry links to several beautiful Scottish Islands, including the Isles of Gigha, Islay and Jura.
