Description

A fine example of a hall house and believed to date from the second half of the 14th Century with early 17th Century additions, The White House is Grade II Listed, being of architectural importance. The property displays a wealth of period features including ancient oak ovolo-moulded mullion windows, exposed timber beams, original fireplaces and brick flooring, while on the outside it has rendered white elevations, over a timber frame under a plain tiled roof.

The property was restored in the 1970's and then extended in the 1980's and now provides an interior with most of the structure exposed. The ground floor accommodation comprises an inner hallway which gives access to the spacious study/bedroom, which enjoys fantastic views over the
surrounding countryside. The family room is very spacious and light with a dual aspect, French doors out on to the terrace and staircase to the first floor. The room also displays the original cross-passage doorways. The brick fireplace houses a large wood burning stove, beyond which lies the sitting room. Double oak doors open into the sitting room which allows for excellent circulation for entertaining. The sitting room enjoys an open fireplace, has a triple aspect, again with French doors out to the terrace.

The well-proportioned dining room is off the family room and has a sliding door out to the terrace and gives access to the downstairs wet room and utility cupboard. The kitchen lies at the rear of the property with wooden base and wall mounted units and space for a cooker. The ground floor also includes a WC and cloaks cupboard.

The first floor landing still exhibits the original square crown post. The principal bedroom has a built-in cupboard and en suite bathroom. There are a further two bedrooms on the first floor and a bathroom. The second floor has an attic room/bedroom five.

Location

The property is located in an accessible rural setting, just outside the small Suffolk village of Wingfield in the beautiful, undulating countryside of the Waveney Valley. The village has a local pub, equestrian centre with a cafe and an important church. The nearby village of Fressingfield, home to the highly regarded Fox and Goose pub and restaurant, is just over one mile away, and has several other amenities including a medical centre, primary school, and a shop.

Stradbroke, just over two miles away, has further local amenities, including shops, post office as well as a primary school and secondary school. The White House is 11 miles north of Framlingham, which has two renowned schools in the town; Thomas Mills High School and Framlingham College. The latter has a bus route which travels through the village.

Further amenities can be found in the local towns of Eye, Harleston and Diss. The latter, nine miles away, has a mainline railway station with trains to London Liverpool Street in approximately 90 minutes. There is easy access to the A14, linking the regional centres of Ipswich, Norwich and Cambridge, as well as the greater road network beyond.
