Attractive and much-improved period home in a sought-after private estate.

Description

Understood to date from the late 1930s, Red Thimbles is an attractive detached house situated in a wonderful part-wooded setting in Maresfield Park. The house has been extended and the majority considerably improved by the current owners: the southern elevation is in an attractive Tudor style with half tile hung timber framed elevations infilled with render and herringbone brick; internally, the accommodation has been reconfigured to offer very spacious and well-presented reception space with features of note including a wealth of handsome oak joinery, brick open fireplaces, modern oak-framed double glazed windows with leaded panes on the southern side of the house, and bespoke book-shelving in the study.

There are four well-proportioned bedrooms and three bathrooms on the first floor, bedroom one with a large roof top balcony overlooking the garden, and bedroom two having a superbly appointed en suite bathroom with classic white Burlington suite, including an elegant slipper bath.

Whilst having been significantly improved already, Red Thimbles offers a buyer the opportunity to further extend and enhance the house, having planning in place to substantially extend to the northern side of the house by over 2,400 square feet, forming a large kitchen, utility rooms, vaulted entrance hall and additional bedrooms.

The house is well-positioned within its boundaries and set in beautiful established gardens, originally landscaped by Hilliers Of Winchester. A large split-level terrace sits adjacent to the western side of the house; an expanse of lawn stretches away to the south, enclosed by mature trees such as pine, fir and silver birch, and large woodland shrubs offering a magnificent display of colour in the spring and summer months. There is ample parking on the private driveway to the north of the house, and a detached brick single garage with adjoining store, in the process of being refurbished. In all, about four-fifths of an acre.

Location

Red Thimbles is situated on the semi-rural edge of Maresfield Park, a popular and established private estate in the village of Maresfield. Maresfield has a primary school, parish church, Post Office, local shop and an 18th century public house/hotel.

Maresfield is on the outskirts of the Ashdown Forest, which offers superb walking and off road riding (for which a permit is required). There are many leisure activities available locally, including local clubs for football, rugby, cricket and theatre; across Sussex, activities include show jumping at Hickstead, sailing at Ardingly and golf at one of the many courses across the county.

Sussex and neighbouring Kent provide a vibrant cultural scene, with world-class opera at Glyndebourne, theatre at Royal Tunbridge Wells, and the historic County town of Lewes and the annual Brighton Festival presenting a huge programme of theatre, dance, classical music and literary events.
