Waking up to watch the first reflections of the morning sunlight glint on the still waters of the lake, the owners of this house in Luxborough Grove never fail to be amazed by the beauty of their location. Their handsome home sits right on the edge of picturesque Furzton Lake, from where it enjoys an unenviable view right across the great expanse of water. “It really is incredible – you can find yourselves lost in the view for hours,” . “We wake up to nothing but the sound of swans and on summer days can bring our cups of tea up to have on the balcony in the morning. In the evening, we sometimes sit out there when it is warm with a glass of wine or beer, just gazing out as the sun goes down.”

Rooms

HIGH QUALITY HOME
Newly built in 2000, the property was almost completed when the current owners first viewed it. “My wife found the house and I went round there with her one evening to look at it,” he recalls. “It was dark, but I could still see how lovely the location and the aspect were. I said to her that I thought this was it.” It was not only the setting beside Furzton Lake that the owners found so enticing. “It was also a really nice house,” he stresses. “We were attracted by the quality of the build and the size of the rooms – it really was something. Every room offered plenty of space and there were no compromises at all.”

SUMMER DAYS
Indeed, the property turned to to be a fantastic family home. The layout was ideal and there was plenty of space for entertaining friends. “We have found it to be a very ‘livable’ home, especially when our daughter was growing up,” he says. “This is a great place to bring up children.” He adds: “In addition to all the space inside, the rear garden is a good size and feels quite private. In the summer months it becomes like an extra room, and we spend a lot of time out there, as well as on the balcony at the front.”

FLEXIBLE LIVING
One of just four houses on its secluded section of lane, the property is entered from the front, which faces the lake. A generous entrance hall leads to a cloakroom and to the dining room at the front of the house. “This is a spacious room, where you can easily have a large dining table, a sideboard and other furniture,” he says. “This room could also be a very generous office, playroom or snug if someone preferred. The accommodation here is very flexible.” The kitchen breakfast room, which opens into a utility room, sits to the back of the house, next to a family room, with double doors on to the garden. “It has been very useful having a second reception room for people to spread out into, especially when our daughter was younger,” he agrees.

ALL SEASONS
The elegant drawing room also has doors on to the garden. “It is nice to feel that you can open up so much of the house on to the garden when the weather is good,” he agrees. “The drawing room has a living flame gas fire, however, and so is also very cosy in the winter.” Although the space has suited the family well, there could be scope for new owners to enhance it if they chose. “Potential exists to either open up the kitchen into the family room and even going out further at the back, perhaps adding a garden room, if you wished,” he suggests. “This is what some of our neighbours have done.”

A UNIQUE BALANCE
Upstairs, each of the five bedrooms is appealing. The master bedroom is especially large and, in addition to its balcony, has a generous en suite bathroom and built-in wardrobes. Two of the other bedrooms have en suite shower rooms and there is also a family bathroom. “The master bedroom is a wonderful room and the views are incredible. We can look out over the lake and see all kinds of wildlife, including Canada Geese, swans and ducks he says. “It is hard to believe you can be somewhere like this while also being less than 10 minutes from the centre of Milton Keynes, with the train station, shops, restaurants and everything else you need so close by. We are also well located for access to the motorway and to good schools.” He adds: “When you pull out of our lane, you almost can’t believe all of this is around you. Living somewhere that is this quiet and secluded, and yet also so convenient, really is unique.”
