Features and description

  • Major renovation project
  • Close to town centre
  • Grade II Listed
  • No onward chain
  • Two reception rooms, three bedrooms and two cellars.

A Grade II Listed three-bedroom house near the centre of Malmesbury; in need of total renovation/refurbishment. The lower ground floor comprises two cellars and on the ground floor there are two reception rooms and a basic kitchen area. On the first floor are three bedrooms and the bathroom and above these are two attic rooms, accessed via separate staircases. No. 2 Bristol Street was originally a pair of houses – one with a ground floor shop. Energy Performance Rating: Current 1 (G), Potential 46 (E).

Believed to date from the early nineteenth Century, the original property is built of natural stone with red-brick chimney stacks and a Cotswold stone tile roof. To the rear is a later extension (kitchen and redundant exterior w.c.) of red-brick elevations under a slate roof. At the side of the kitchen is a small yard, bounded by a natural stone wall. Both cellars have separate internal stairs from the ground floor and the larger cellar has a street-level doorway leading onto Burnivale.

The property has not been lived in for some time and has not been updated for even longer. As a result, many original features, such as elm floor boards, staircases and cast iron fireplaces have been retained. Not a project for the faint-hearted, but a unique opportunity to acquire a period property with great potential.

No.2 Bristol Street is only a few minutes walk from the top of Malmesbury’s busy High Street, which offers a wide range of shops and services. Further out from the town centre there is the choice of Waitrose, Co-op and Aldi supermarkets. The much larger towns of Swindon, Chippenham and Cirencester are all easily accessible by road. Junction 17 of the M4 Motorway is about five miles to the south west and main line rail services are available from Swindon, Chippenham and Kemble.
