Delightful period Lochside cottage.

Description

Westercraigs is thought to date from the early 1800s when it was a thatched cottage, probably inhabited by the oyster fishermen of Loch Fyne. Extended over the years, it now offers flexible accommodation over two levels under a slate roof. It is a charming country cottage of considerable character and very well presented, enjoying spectacular views of Loch Fyne and its own lovely gardens.

A glazed entrance porch leads to the reception hallway and the drawing room with an exposed stone wall and rustic open fireplace with wood burning stove. The charming country kitchen has a terracotta tiled floor, fitted Shaker style cabinetry topped with solid wood and a dark blue two oven Stanley range cooker. There is ample space for dining table and chairs. The kitchen leads to a sun room with big picture windows overlooking the garden and this in turn opens into a cloakroom/utility room and a downstairs bedroom or study. There is also a wet room and larder on this level. Upstairs there is a further sitting room with fabulous views and a second log burner. Also on this floor are two double bedrooms, both with fitted wardrobes, and a family bathroom with an impressive antique vanity unit.

Grounds
Westercraigs is set amidst spectacular cottage gardens which seasonally are awash with colour. Of particular note is the stream which meanders through its grounds and directly into Loch Fyne.

The formal, mature gardens are well stocked with evergreens, rhododendrons and charming native shrubs. The front garden is predominantly laid to lawn and the rear gardens are on two main levels. The garden also includes pear and apple trees.

Location

Westercraigs is a fine country cottage in the charming lochside hamlet of Leachd (pronounced Leek), 2 miles from the village of Strachur. Comprising only a cluster of cottages, Leachd nestles alongside the shore of one of Scotland’s longest and finest sea lochs. Loch Fyne is famous the world over for its oysters, breathtaking scenery, challenging sailing waters and stunning castles including Inveraray Castle and Castle Lachlan. Nearby Strachur has its own post office, tearoom and village pub/restaurant. It also has a primary school. Schooling at secondary level is offered in Dunoon, some 21 miles away. Dunoon also offers extensive shopping, a supermarket, cinema and hospital. Glasgow International Airport is just over an hour’s drive away under normal driving conditions and has regular domestic and international flights.
