Description

Fieldholme was originally built circa 1938 for the village blacksmith, Norman Bucknell. The house was designed and constructed in the traditional Arts & Crafts style with Bucknell made opening window sashes, leaded windows panels, oak beams, polished floors and the gabled roof design. The current owners purchased in 1998 and at the time the property required major restoration. They also added sympathetic extensions to make it into the large family home you now see. Working with a local architect they wanted to retain the essence of this Arts & Crafts house including the gardens which now surround the property.

The rooms are well laid out to include two principal reception rooms: the sitting room with an open fire and dining room with a log burning stove. The former is a very appealing room with a dressed local stone fireplace, both rooms lead on to the conservatory. The fitted kitchen is found back off the entrance hall and enjoys double aspect windows with lots of natural light. Flowing through the kitchen you find the utility with back door to garden and the double garage. The entrance hall leads on to a study and shower room.

The well-tended ornamental gardens contain many unusual shrubs and plants to provide all year interest. Secluded seating areas and colour themed borders provide a lovely setting for outdoor entertaining. The field behind the property has been planted with a number of specimen trees over the last 60 years and the current owners have continued developing this small arboretum. Selected areas have been planted with wild flowers and create a haven for wildlife with roe deer, owls, bats and hedgehogs being regular visitors. The field, has separate vehicular access via a byway/lane.

Within the confines of the field there is an Open Barn and Single Garage. The field is subject to a restrictive covenant that prohibits development.

Location

Fieldholme sits within Waterlane, a highly-sought after hamlet surrounded by idyllic rolling Cotswold landscape with many country walks just on the doorstep and other outdoor activities. Waterlane is located within equidistance (only 1.5 miles) to the prime larger villages of Bisley, Oakridge Lynch and Sapperton which between them have a range of village amenities. Bisley has an excellent sense of community along with a popular primary school, village hall, two pubs and a village shop/post office. Oakridge Lynch also has a primary school, shop with post office and The Butchers Arms pub whilst Sapperton boasts two country pubs, The Daneway Inn and the highly-regarded The Bell. The market towns of Cirencester and Stroud have their own array of shops including Waitrose as well as restaurants and many other amenities.

Cheltenham and Gloucester are both easily commutable at under 14 miles distance. Fast trains to London Paddington run from nearby Kemble and Stroud train stations and easy access to the M5 connects to Bristol and Birmingham.
