The Property

Steeped in history, Callaly Castle appears in Pevsner’s Architectural Guide as "one of the most interesting and varied houses in Northumberland" and has been enhanced over the years by the Clavering and Browne families. Formally a gate house to the castle, Grade II Listed South Lodge has been refurbished to an impeccable standard by the current owners, along with two further detached annexes.  Occupying a fantastic position in a truly spectacular setting, the property offers fantastic seclusion with private gardens and grounds extending to around 4.65 acres in all. There is also the added benefit of access to the Callaly Castle Museum and 27 acres of communal gardens and grounds.

Refurbished with exceptional quality and specification, South Lodge is finished to a high standard with appealing contemporary interiors. The property offers excellent modern day living space with elegant design details throughout. The inviting open plan kitchen with central island offers ample space for dining and the attractive fireplace with woodburning stove provides a fantastic focal point in the sitting room. The principal bedroom benefits from an en-suite shower room whilst a second double bedroom is served by a bathroom with WC, wash hand basin and bath. A useful laundry zone is also available.

Fox Lodge, a detached annexe to South Lodge, has been finished to an equally impressive standard with a welcoming sitting room and contemporary kitchen. The generously-proportioned principal bedroom has French doors to the gardens and benefits from an en-suite shower room comprising WC, two wash hand basins and a shower cubicle. A further detached annexe offers fantastic versatility and is currently configured as a gym, office and store room.

Externally

South Lodge and all its offerings are secure and private, accessed through iron gates and nestled behind the 300-year-old stone wall boundary. The generous gardens are largely laid to lawn and offer fruit trees, a natural wildlife pond, shrubbery and planting. There is a fabulous sandstone paved terrace and further areas ideally suited to alfresco dining and entertaining. The paddock is currently used for grazing with three gate access points.
