MARKET DEEPING is an ancient market town situated on the border of Cambridgeshire with Lincolnshire on the north bank of the River Welland. The settlement boasts many fine period buildings, some dating from the 15th century. The Grade I Listed parish church of St Guthlac dates from the late 12th century and the weekly market is also believed to date from the early 13th century.
The town is located at the junction of the A.15 and A.16 and is now by-passed.. Amenities within Market Deeping and the adjoining Deeping St. James include a wide variety of shops, leisure facilities, restaurants/pubs, primary and secondary schools.
Peterborough city centre, with a main line railway service to King's Cross in less than hour, lies about 8 miles to the south and the historic town of Stamford about 7 miles to the west.
THIS PREDOMINANTLY STONE-BUILT PERIOD RESIDENCE, which is located in a Conservation Area, is Listed (Grade II) as a building of Architectural and Historic Interest. It dates from 1819 and was built by the Feoffees of Market Deeping as the Boys' Endowed School.
“THE OLD SCHOOL HOUSE” has been carefully restored to retain many of its original period features including a Collyweston slate roof, sash windows, some with original glass and shutters, ceiling cornices and mouldings as well as a front door with boot scraper inserts.
