Attractive 3 bedroom stone cottage built in the 1860s which has been sympathetically refurbished and substantially extended by the current owner the property is bordered by a stream. The accommodation comprises, lounge , dining room, kitchen, utility, wet room, 3 bedroom and a bathroom.

8 Old Road, also known as Nant Cottage, was built around 1860 alongside the then main road from Pontardawe to Brecon. Apparently 8 and 9 were built by a mining family; in the early twentieth century they were occupied by a Mr Williams, described as a canal lengthman. So the cottage holds in its stones the story of the last 150 years of local Pontardawe history.

The current owners bought the house in 2008. By then it was quite dilapidated so it was decided to completely rebuild/renovate and extend the house together with No. 9 next door. In 2010 the outbuilding was added. (Planning Permissions and Building Control application supplied.) In brief, the existing building was stripped right back to the front and side elevations plus the party wall. The floor was excavated and the existing extension and back wall demolished. Externally the steps, walls and terraces were rebuilt to give wonderful views over the Cwmshon stream. During the rebuild which was completed in 2010 every effort was taken to incorporate or replicate original features and character like the staircase and wood-burner and where appropriate reclaimed materials were reused or sourced. The result is a comfortable and convenient modern dwelling which retains a traditional feel.
