Description

Designated as a Grade II* listed building of historic interest, Great Maytham is a most impressive country house which was designed in 1909 by Sir Edwin Lutyens for the Right Honorable H J Tennant.

Set amidst glorious landscaped communal gardens and parkland which were the inspiration behind Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel ‘The Secret Garden’, this now exclusive development boasts a collection of beautifully converted outbuildings and apartments.

1 Coach House Mews is situated to the north west of the main house and was formerly part of the original stables. This immaculately presented, attached, two storey home with underfloor heating to the ground floor comprises: an entrance hall; a shower room with contemporary sanitaryware; a study/bedroom three; a comprehensively fitted kitchen/breakfast room with Rangemaster cooker and various integral Neff appliances; an attractive south-westerly facing conservatory and glazed doors to a pretty private courtyard and completing the ground floor is an excellent 25 ft sitting room, also with glazed doors to the courtyard.

On the first floor are two attractive bedrooms, one with direct access to a roof terrace from where lovely views over the gardens can be enjoyed and a modern bathroom.

A long gravel drive leads via arched entrance lodges to a sweep to the front of the house with the drive continuing around to the mews where there is further parking and a garage en bloc.
The lovely communal grounds, laid out in conjunction with Gertrude Jekyll form a beautiful setting, immediately to the rear is a kitchen and cutting garden and to the north west of the lawn is a stunning18th century walled garden with a pergola clad in roses, honeysuckle and jasmine. Beyond lies a water garden with a central pond.
