The Story
For more than 11 years now the three-storey property on Greenways Drive has offered significant and very flexible living space to its owners. Its size and layout have been ideal for family life and entertaining, as well as work and leisure purposes, explains one of its current owners. “We have loved living here so much – it has been a really happy home,” she admits. “We enjoy all the benefits of living in Sunningdale and yet at the same time are so private and secluded. We are down a private lane, with just three other houses on it, and have a lovely garden, with a 100-year-old oak tree in it, which gives it a wonderful, woodland feel and adds to that sense of seclusion. We are so tucked away; you would not even know the house was here.”
SUPERB RECEPTION ROOMS
Newly built when they first moved in, the sizeable, detached house, which has been carefully maintained and beautifully decorated in neutral Farrow & Ball shades, is approached up a generous drive and then entered via a capacious reception hall. This runs the entire depth of the house and has French windows on to the garden at the back. “This is a very light house and the arrangement of rooms, sheer square footage and flow between spaces means you can really use it however you choose,” she suggests. Also at ground-floor level, are the drawing room, sitting or dining room and study, together with a downstairs cloakroom. “The dining room was originally a playroom, but now the children are older they use the large room on the very top floor as their den,” she adds.
HOME AND GARDEN
The capacious kitchen, breakfast and family room has ample space for a dining table and chairs, comfortable seating if required and the stylish kitchen area, complete with breakfast bar. “This is a great room for spending time in,” she observes. “In summer, we can open the doors in here, the hall and the drawing room on to the garden. We have had some great parties in the past, with people playing the piano and guitars in the hall and everyone wandering from room to room and in and out of the house.”
BEAUTIFUL BEDROOMS
Five of the bedrooms are situated on the first floor of the property. These include the sumptuous master bedroom, with its large dressing room and en suite bathroom, with bath and shower. Two bedrooms share the family bathroom, while two more have their own en suite bath or shower rooms. Two more bedrooms, including another with an en suite shower room, plus the very large room currently used as a den, are on the top floor. “Having so many bedrooms and bathrooms ensures everyone has their own space and that it is very easy to have friends and family to stay,” she adds.
GREAT POTENTIAL
The parkland-style garden has been a great addition to the house, with plenty of space for outside dining and entertaining, as well as a children’s play area. “We love its tranquil, woodland feel, which attracts all sorts of birds and squirrels,” says the owner. “Other people might like to make changes, however. There could be space for someone else to add a swimming pool, either at the back or even the front.” Indeed, there could be scope for all sorts of enhancements to the property (subject to the relevant planning permissions). The integral garage, which is currently accessed via the kitchen and outside, and with a utility room and second cloakroom, could be converted into annexe accommodation. “Equally new owners could open the garage up into the house and convert the whole area into one even larger kitchen, breakfast and family room.”
A PERFECT HOME
While the property on Greenways Drive makes a perfect place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life, it is also in a superb location for travelling to London by rail or road, reaching major supermarkets and accessing a variety of good schools. “You can walk to Sunningdale Golf Course from here and we are also well positioned for Virginia Water lake, Windsor Great Park, the Savill Garden and Chobham Common,” she adds. “We will take some lovely memories when we leave this house. If you want to be somewhere quiet and secluded, yet close to everything you need, it really is the perfect home.”
SETTING THE SCENE
Set on a quiet lane and sitting very centrally within its beautiful grounds, the house on Greenways Drive has a very generous front garden and driveway, with ample space for off-road parking. To the rear, it opens on to a very spacious, leafy garden, which is well screened by trees and features a beautiful old oak tree as a centre piece. There is also a terrace for outside dining and a children’s play area.
