    Ponteland Leisure Centre, five minutes' drive from Ottermead, has a range of sports facilities, including a swimming pool, gym, sports hall and pitches. A wide variety of classes are on offer, from fitness and zumba to archery. Ponteland Park is situated in the town centre and covers around 18 acres. It is popular with families, dog walkers and runners, and is the venue for many local events. A number of traditional pubs, wine bars, cafes and restaurants are located in the town, catering to a variety of tastes and cuisines. Kirkley Hall, part of Northumbria College, is just two miles from away and provides a range of land and animal care courses.


    Ponteland town centre has several supermarkets and a range of independent shops, while Kingston Park, 10 minutes' drive away, is home to further supermarkets, fashion and lifestyle stores. Newcastle city centre is 20 minutes away by car away and is celebrated for its myriad department and chain stores, boutiques and independent retailers throughout the main commercial areas of Eldon Square, Northumberland Street and Grainger Town. The Metrocentre, 11 miles away in Gateshead, is one of the largest shopping centres in the country, with several hundred stores, as well as many cafes and restaurants, a multi-screen cinema and a bowling alley.
