Nestling in its own substantial plot, this property is steeped in history and was built by Nelson's paymaster just after the Battle of Trafalgar. It is only a very short distance from the Viking Bay and the town centre and has been charmingly updated. It offers plenty of interesting options as a permanent home, weekend retreat or holiday let. In addition there is an adjacent single storey shiplap clad bungalow that, while in need of complete renovation, would make an ideal annex and could always be extended subject to the appropriate planning permissions.

The property is approached via double gates that lead to that most valuable of assets in this part of Broadstairs – off road parking for two cars. It has delightful kerb appeal and an attractive entrance door that opens into the cosy sitting room. Here you will find a pair of window seats, a brick fireplace at one end and an elegant Geogian style fireplace at the other. This leads either upstairs or through to the hall and the original front door and reception area to the modern bathroom as well as to the country style kitchen and the gorgeous dining room with its vaulted wood ceiling and feature flint wall. On the first floor there is a good size double bedroom with a large dressing area while on the second floor there are two bedrooms.

A carved door leads from the hall to a courtyard and access to the bungalow that is currently configured as a large living room with a feature fireplace and a glass door to a porch and independent external access. There is also a shower and an archway through to a bedroom with a fireplace and built in cupboard. Outside there is a large area of lawn, shrub borders, a summerhouse and a garden shed as well as a sheltered patio and flower borders and surrounded by a high hedge.

What the Owner says:
"The cottage has been in our family since the early 1960s. Initially bought for weekends and holidays but over the years it became a permanent home for some of us. Unfortunately, as we all now live in different parts of the country, it's time to let another family love and live in this wonderful home. Over the decades, we have enjoyed all the seasons in the cottage from lazy hot summer BBQs in the garden with family and friends, to Christmas evenings spent round a log fire after a huge Christmas lunch and a family walk on the beach.

We have always loved Broadstairs with its history, beauty and charm. Being close to the beach and the town means you are minutes away from what you need or what you want! Since we were children, we've enjoyed the Dickens Festival, Folk Week and long hot summers on the beautiful, clean, beaches. The local cinema has to be one of the friendliest in the UK, and for a seaside town, there are some really great restaurants. Trains from London are frequent and rapid from St Pancras; often getting us there quicker than crossing London in rush hour."

    Broadband availability and predicted speed

Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength

Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services

Energy Performance data and Internal floor area

Any supplementary data should not be relied upon as forming part of any property particulars and OnTheMarket cannot be held responsible for any incorrectness in this data. See here for more information.

    *Call rate information

Calls to 0843 numbers will be charged at 4p/min from BT landlines. Calls from other networks may vary, and calls from mobiles and outside the UK will be higher. Calls to local numbers beginning with 01, 02 and 03 numbers will incur standard geographic charges from landlines and mobiles.
