Property description & features

  • Tenure: Leasehold
Cleveland House is a small and very well maintained Victorian mansion block located on the corner of the ever popular and quiet Hackford Road and Mowll Street. This well presented first floor flat comes to the market for the first time in almost 25 years. It is on the corner of the building and offers space and charm with plenty of original features. The communal hallway of the building has the original encaustic tiled floor and the stone staircase rises in turn. On ringing the fabulous doorbell! you enter the flat through the front door into the hallway with wooden floors and high ceilings. There is a super reception room with the beautiful original fireplace, large sash windows and wooden floors. The master bedroom has the pretty cast iron fireplace, offers excellent space and lovely light with the double sash window. The second bedroom also has the original fireplace in situ. A charming dining room with galley kitchen off it overlooks the rear gardens and offers lovely entertaining space. There is a long lease and reasonable service charges

Hackford Road is situated in Oval and is well placed for excellent transport links and amenities. Oval Underground Station (Northern Line) is less than a ten minute walk and there is an array of buses on both Clapham Road and Brixton Road that head for The City and West End. There is an abundance of small local shops on the Brixton Road running up to Kennington Park along with numerous cafes. Kennington Park offers superb sporting facilities and is a genuinely beautiful original London park enclosed as such in 1852; there is much history to discover, including it being the meeting place for the "Chartist" march in 1848. There were also gallows on the site until around 1800 for public hangings! Naturally the cricket fan is very at home here with The Oval itself around the corner, cricket originally being played on Kennington Common as early as 1724. Vincent Van Gogh briefly resided on Hackford Road and his house has now become a museum along with the recent re-naming of Isabel Street to "Van Gogh Walk" in celebration. St Mark's Church has a wonderful farmers market every Saturday and was once the parish of the Reverend Henry Montgomery; father to the famous Viscount Field Marshall Montgomery of Alamein who was born around the corner in 1887!
