ABOUT THE AREA
Southwood is a small rural hamlet about a mile south of the village of Baltonsborough between Glastonbury and Castle Cary. The hamlet is within the parish of Baltonsborough, which has a church, primary school, pub, a new shop/café/bakery, village hall and a monthly village magazine giving details of all local activies and societies in this friendly welcoming community. (Google Baltonsborough for more info.)
Glastonbury
Glastonbury's past and present are linked with the dominant landmark of the Tor. It has been a religious centre throughout history and back into the time of legends. There was a Celtic monastery here by 500 AD, which in the next thousand years evolved into one of England's wealthiest and most influential Abbeys. The town grew up alongside the Abbey and is today a small but thriving town and a major tourist venue. Medieval Glastonbury - designated a conservation area clusters around the rocky ruins of the Abbey.
Castle Cary
Castle Cary described by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner the eminent architectural historian, as Somerset's prettiest town, lies in beautiful unspoilt countryside. The town is characterised by period buildings constructed of the distinctive honey coloured stone for which the area is well known. It remains a delightful small market town with a number of traditional shops and boutiques. On the outskirts of Castle Cary is the railway station with its direct line to Paddington (under 2 hours) and the A303 road link is a few miles south.
Schools
There are excellent state and independent schools in the area including Millfield, Strode College, Wells Cathedral, Hazelgrove, various local primary schools and the Bruton and Sherborne schools.
Directions
From the Greyhound pub in the middle of Baltonsborough go southwards for a mile and turn left towards Southwood. Brook Farm is the first property on the right hand side.

Broadband availability and predicted speed
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
