Property description & features

Lot 6 - Tayinloan Development Site

The estate owns the Tayinloan Inn, Tayinloan Stores and former petrol station, all of which are now derelict. The hotel has been closed for over 10 years, as has the petrol station, although the post office stores were functional until February 2020.

The large site on which the hotel and stores sit provides the purchaser with a significant development opportunity, be it residential or commercial, while the site of the old petrol station could make an excellent site for a residential dwelling, subject to planning consents.

Lying on the western edge of The Kintyre Peninsula, Killean Estate and the properties therein boast incredible views over the islands of Cara, Gigha, Islay and Jura. The Kintyre Peninsula itself is popular with tourist and has plenty of attractions to offer including great sea fishing and sailing. The village of Tayinloan, just a mile to the north of the estate, is where the ferry docks for visitors to the Isle of Gigha and hosts the derelict former Tayinloan Inn and the Tayinloan stores on the east side of the village.

The stunning coast road down the peninsula leads through the estate. Campbeltown is less than 20 miles to the south and is one of the largest towns in Argyll, often popular with tourists exploring the peninsula. There are three distilleries in the town, which also has its own airfield. Just south of Campbeltown is the popular tourist village of Machrihanish which boasts a famous links golf course and stunning beaches.

North of the estate, the road leads through a number of famous Argyll towns; Tarbert has a stunning marina and ferry link over to the Kyles of Bute. Further north, Lochgilphead, Oban and Inverary have a number of attractions and great opportunities for sailing and sight-seeing. The main road to Glasgow is a spectacular drive through the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

    Broadband availability and predicted speed

Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength

Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services

Energy Performance data and Internal floor area
