South Hinksey is a village approximately one and a half miles south west of the centre of Oxford with the parish church of St Laurence with parts dating from the 13th Century and the General Elliott public house. Pedestrian and cycle access from the village to Oxford is via the Devil's Backbone, a historic raised pathway across the neighbouring plains that features in Matthew Arnold's poem The Scholar Gipsy. The property is accessed via the A34 by car and is well placed for reaching the A420 and transport links to London, Newbury and Banbury. Rail links are available from Oxford to London Paddington and Oxford Parkway into London Marylebone.
In the owners words:
“I purchased the property as it is on the Cusp of the City, however in a quaint Village which is surrounded by fields. It is very peaceful and quiet, yet having good links to Oxford for everything you want plus great links to all other cities via train or Bus. There is plenty of parking for visitors besides the drive. A very friendly community. The village is Tranquil, however being located as it is has everything one would require. I hardly use my vehicle so have been afforded the best of both worlds. The road leading to the house has no access, so very limited traffic, either by cars or persons. The village has a very low crime rate. The village is great if you want or have Cats/Dogs as plenty of fields that are safe. Equally for children there is access to a park within walking distance and a yearly fete, and safe areas.”
