Property description

The Upper Scone beat is situated on the Lower Tay just to the north of Perth in charming countryside between the Grampian and Sidlaw Hills. Perth lies about 5 miles to the south where there is a main line railway station with regular daytime and overnight services to London and the south. The A9 gives fast access to the motorway network at Perth and Edinburgh Airport (about 45 minutes at off peak times). There are excellent local hotels including the Ballathie House Hotel, the Dunkeld House Hotel and the Murrayshall Hotel. Alternatively the area has a wealth of first class holiday cottages which can be rented by the week.

The Tay is Scotland’s greatest river in virtually every respect. It is the longest (120 miles) and the widest. It has the greatest catchment area
(in excess of 2,000 square miles), the greatest number of tributaries and the largest volume of flow. Most importantly it has the largest salmon
catch and the largest fish.

The Tay season opens on January 15th and closes on October 15th. The river has a history of large salmon, the most famous being the 64lb British record fish caught by Miss Ballantine on 7th October 1922 at Glendelvine near Dunkeld.
The Upper Scone Fishings is divided into the Benchil and Pitlochrie beats. They are fished from the banks, by wading and from a boat. The beats extend to about 2 miles in length and include 23 named pools. There is a reciprocal arrangement with the proprietor of the opposite
bank (known as the Benchil and Pitlochrie Fishings) whereby each proprietor can fish both banks on alternate days.

There are 2 fishing huts. 2 ghillies are allocated to the Upper Scone beats. The ghillies and huts are shared with the Benchil and Pitlochrie
Fishings but are available exclusively to the time share owners on the days when the Upper Scone Syndicate is fishing. The Upper Scone
Syndicate fishes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The formation of The Upper Scone Syndicate has allowed fishermen to secure prime fishing on the River Tay in perpetuity giving them the right
to fish for salmon and sea trout during their chosen week. The purchaser will be assigned the current owner’s right to 2 rods in week 33. Further details are available from the selling agents. The fishings are managed by Salar Management Services Ltd.

Week 33 commences on 3rd September in 2012. An annual management charge is levied each year to pay for the running costs of the fishings. The management charge in 2012 for week 33 is £742.74/rod inclusive of Vat.
