Built in 1685 with stone from Yenston Priory, a Benedictine cell of St. Cever Abbey in France, which was dissolved during the reign of Henry VIII, this is an impressive, beautifully presented Grade II listed country house.
The house was subsequently altered in the 20th century and has excellent ceiling heights throughout. It has been completely and sympathetically renovated and has retained many period features such as stone mullion windows, window seats, fireplaces, panelling and parquet floors. On the ground floor are three well proportioned reception rooms, two of which face south looking out across the garden. Both the drawing and dining rooms have windows on two sides and the sitting room has painted panelling on the walls and ceiling to create a cosy but well-lit room. Adjacent to the sitting room is the kitchen/breakfast room with a 4 oven, oil-fired AGA and has French windows, which open out to the terrace and garden. Beneath the hall is a useful cellar and off the kitchen are the pantry and adjacent scullery with walk-in larder. On the first floor off a split landing are the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, which both have lovely views over open countryside, four further double bedrooms, a single bedroom and three bathrooms.
There is a stable yard on one side of the house and a parking area in front of the house. There are several outbuildings; a traditional coach house, range of six loose boxes, tack room and stone barn and beyond is the paddock. The formal and enclosed garden extends out from the south side of the house where a flagstone terrace fringes the length of the house with a large level lawn extending out to a low stone wall. In all there is about 2.16 acres.
