The city of Chelmsford is less than three miles away and is home to three superb private prep schools, two outstanding grammar schools and a well-known independent school (New Hall), with the renowned Felsted School only 12 miles to the northeast. It also has a bustling shopping centre and excellent transport links, with a station on the mainline into London Liverpool Street, access onto the A12, and Stansted airport 19 miles to the northwest.

Description

Haven House is a late 18th century brick house of considerable character but it is not listed. It has attractive symmetrical gault brick elevations, complemented by double-hung sashes with glazing bars in plain reveals, a hipped slate roof and a central six-panel door. The present owners have lived there since 2010 and added a substantial extension to the property. The rooms throughout the house are well proportioned, with high ceilings, many deep sash windows, a wealth or original features and additional detailing combining together to create an elegant yet comfortable and inviting family home.

The reception hall has oak flooring, high ceilings and an easy-rise staircase leading up to the first floor landing. The sitting room lies to the right of the hall and to the left you have a study and also the drawing room which enjoys the benefit of an open fireplace housing a wood-burner. The kitchen/dining room to the rear of the property opens out onto the garden with an inner lobby providing substantial cloakroom storage and access to a WC.

The impressive hand painted kitchen extension lies at the end of the hall and has three sets of bi-fold doors giving on to the garden. It has a wide range of fitted units with granite work surfaces, a large island, a range of integral appliances that include a steam oven, dishwasher and wine cooler and additional space for a fridge/freezer and range cooker. There is a comfortable seating area and a substantial dining area sited beneath a large roof lantern and, towards the back of the kitchen, access to a utility room (which is in need of some upgrading), plumbing for another ground floor WC and a door into the integral double garage.

The first floor rooms are arranged around a large, light landing and consist of a master bedroom and four further bedrooms, an en suite bathroom to the master bedroom, another large bathroom accessible from the landing but which also acts as an en suite to bedroom two, and a stand alone family shower room. The fifth bedroom is currently used as a dressing room.

The house sits at the front of its plot behind an attractive dwarf brick wall with beach hedge and attractive railings enclosing the front garden. There is ample block paved parking to both sides of the property with access to the double garage on the right. A large terrace hugs the back of the house and leads onto the lawn, with an abundance of trees beyond that create a good sense of privacy.
