Welcome to The Thatched Cottage: its simple name belies both its size and its appeal. A house of generous proportions, and considerable character, it is truly a home with family living at its heart. Unlike many period homes, the accommodation is both ligth and generous in size. The heavy oak front door opens into a useful vestibule before reaching the hallway. Light floods in from the French doors within the study immediately ahead. This engaging study also hosts the guest cloakroom. The welcoming SITTING ROOM lies adjacent and is a particularly generous room with its cosy woodburner set against an Arts and Crafts style fireplace. Large windows frame views of the front garden. From the hallway, there is access to the extremely elegant DINING ROOM: this is a room for entertaining in style and large numbers can be seated. A beautiful staircase winds around as it extends to the first floor.
Next to the dining room is the KITCHEN/FAMILY room: flagstone flooring and a range of solid oak cabinets with granite worksurface provide a stylish, yet practical, solution. Integral appliances include a gas range cooker (5 burner) with electric hot plate and oven, dish-washer, water filter-tap, waste disposal and fridge. A log-burner is centre stage for a cosy seating and dining area. Another large window overlooks the garden. The UTILITY ROOM is just off the kitchen and has a butler sink, space for washing machine, dryer and a fridge/freezer. The boiler is located in this room and there is a door leading to a Plant Room where the boiler is located.
The rather impressive GARDEN ROOM is just off the kitchen: the combination of oak and glass creates a truly splendid room from which to overlook the rear garden. Bird-spotting a must!
On the first floor, there are five bedrooms: each with pretty views of the front or rear gardens. One of the bedrooms has a shower ensuite facility and another bedroom has both a bath and shower within their ensuite facility. In addition there is a family bathroom with shower over the bath.
The garden is a particulary lovely feature with lawns extending on two levels and many seating areas providing every opportunity to enjoy the sun all day long. A SUMMERHOUSE overlooks the carp pond creating a pretty feature in one corner of the garden. A SWIMMING POOL and loggia with an adjacent Pool Room (which provides a shower cubicle, storage and WC) is perfect for family entertainment. Of further note is the separate OUTBUILDING (constructed as a Mission Hall) built, it is understood, in the 1920's with a large NE facing window ideal for artists. There is access both from the road and also from the garden (opportunity for conversion subject to any necessary consents).
Milborne Port is a large, but friendly village in the South Eastern part of Somerset, on the edge of the Blackmore Vale and close to the Dorset border.
The village is fortunate to have all the main services which a village needs – shops, post office, doctors' surgery, primary school, churches, pubs, clubs, restaurant, playing fields, children's play areas, garage, as well as a good range of clubs and societies. Further (high end) restaurant to open as is a new Co-Op. The historic town of Sherborne is just 3 miles away with its famous Abbey, excellent range of facilities including mainline station and both independent and public schools.
From Dorchester's Top o' Town roundabout, take the B3147, signposted Sherborne and Yeovil. Take the second right, just before the petrol station. Continue on this road until you pass through the village of Cosmore. You will then join the A352 to Sherborne. Just before you reach Sherborne take the B3145 (on right, towards Sherborne Castle). At T junction turn right to Milborne Port. As you enter village, take first left into 'Gainsborough'. Follow past surgery (on left); take next left into 'New Town': property first on your right.
