Alandale is a building of historical importance built in the late 19th century as part of the Royal Terrace which housed the coastguard in St David's. The house was allocated to the Commanding Officer of the contingent and boasts the most extensive accommodation of the officers' houses in the terrace, once playing host to Prince Albert, the eldest son of Queen Victoria, who went on to become King Edward VII. Original period features remain such as the ship's timbers that were used in the construction of the roof and a fireplace in the lounge. Having been used for a variety of purposes over the years, the house was also occupied by the influential poet, Waldo Williams, and is receiving a blue plaque to commemorate this. The house has uninterrupted and unrivalled views towards St David's Head and the sea beyond.
