Why you’ll like it:
For somewhere so central; with excellent transport links and a bustling social scene nearby, this studio apartment feels wonderfully serene as it is raised above the hubbub of the city, looking out over neighbouring gardens below wide open skies. The setting is definitely urban however, with Brighton’s famous Victorian viaduct sweeping by, and Argyle Road echoes its curve below.
The house sits mid-terrace with the classic architectural detailing of the period. Upon entry, the communal stairwell is clean and bright, and on the first floor landing you gain the first of the views to the rear. Your door is on the second floor and opens to an internal wooden staircase which rises double height into the apartment; adding to the sense of space and light within while providing the perfect spot for larger pieces of artwork or wall hangings. The stairs and woodwork within the flat have been picked out in a cool mid-grey which complements the warmer tones of the cork flooring, and this runs throughout the apartment for continuity.
First to the left is the kitchen which is nicely separate and has been well-designed to take advantage of the glorious views - a joy to wash up to. The sink has been cut into a solid oak work top, and below this the fridge and cooker are freestanding. Running along the rear wall, useful open shelves have been built in for food storage, crockery and glassware, and being full height, they make maximum use of the space.
Next door, the bathroom is simply designed with a white bath, wall tiles and suite, and while it is an internal room, it is well-lit and ventilated with plenty of scope to add your own creative flair.
Spanning the front of the building, the main studio room is a fantastic size with clearly defined areas for sleep, relaxation, and dining. The wide dormer window creates even more space, and facing west it fills the room with a warming light during the afternoon and early evening. You look out to the rooftops of the homes opposite, with the green trees of the railway embankment behind them, so bathed in sunshine and surrounded by nature, it really is hard to believe you are so close to the city centre.
Bear in Mind:
This flat has night storage heaters, but they rarely need to be used as the flat is naturally warm. There is an induction boiler for the hot water, but the addition of a combination gas boiler would certainly add value if desired.
‘I love this flat. It has been my home for over 18 years. I never tire of gazing out at the panoramic views from my cosy kitchen. I bought this flat because it was special, with its amazing views and the internal stairs which make it feel like a little house, rather than a flat. It has sheltered me and been my sanctuary and I shall be sad to leave.”
