Beautiful contemporary home, designed by a local architect and nestled in the traditional English hamlet of Stoke Charity, just seven miles from Winchester, overlooking open countryside and offering generous, flexible accommodation.
Originally an old dairy house, this home was bought by the current owner nine years ago, and extensively redesigned and developed with the help of renowned local architect, using mainly local tradesmen and materials. Whilst the current owner designed it for his particular requirements, the accommodation remains enormously flexible to suit the needs of any future owner.
The beautiful tiled reception hall sets the tone for this exceptional family home.
Turning right from the reception hall, leads you into the beautiful kitchen/dining/family room, with a wonderful oak floor incorporating underfloor heating. The bespoke handmade kitchen was designed by Jane Cheel (http://www.janecheelfurniture.com/), with fitted electric ovens, gas hob and features Sub-Zero appliances including fitted wine coolers, fridges and freezers. There is an inbuilt deep fat fryer, chopping boards, La Vesse Griaudon rotisserie and a bespoke Wessex Ducting kitchen ventilation system (with external fan minimising any noise in the kitchen). There is a wealth of cupboard storage including cleverly designed larder cupboards. The kitchen has a beautiful oak floor, and is open plan with the family room, where there is a remote control gas fire, and bifold doors out to the gardens.
From the kitchen, a door leads through to a large reception room with doors out to the garden terrace and stairs leading up, past a cloakroom to a mezzanine gallery. This room would easily lend itself to being a fabulous drawing room, or to being a self contained annexe.
To the left of the reception hall is part of the original house, where 17th century doors, reclaimed from a French Chateau, lead to an inner hallway, past a cloakroom, a staircase to the first floor, through to the living room, where there is an open fire, set into a limestone fireplace, and open-plan with a large glass orangery overlooking the gardens.
From here, doors lead through a glass vestibule, to an oak staircase leading up to bedroom seven which has an ensuite shower room, currently used as an office. This sits over the triple garage (easily convertible to further accommodation), and onto the cinema/games room. The cinema games room has a 3m x 3m remote controlled cinema screen, which when activated, triggers window blinds and mood lighting. There is also a bar with Sub-Zero fridge, and built-in Play-stations and wiring for gaming equipment. There are two staircases leading to the main bedrooms, one from the Inner Hall and also from the kitchen. The first floor has four double bedrooms and three bathrooms. The generous master suite comprises a large dressing room with a wealth of fitted wardrobes and ample space for a sofa/sitting area, a modern contemporary bathroom with freestanding bath, double shower cubicle, oversized basin, and inset television screen. The bedroom itself is very spacious, with further bespoke fitted wardrobes and bi-fold doors leading onto a large balcony, with glass balustrade overlooking the gardens. The guest bedroom has a contemporary ensuite shower room, there are two further double bedrooms on this floor and a fully tiled family bathroom with a freestanding bath, double basin and built in television. Stairs lead up to the second floor, where the accommodation again is extremely versatile. This could easily be a large self contained flat and is currently being split into two distinct areas – firstly a large gymnasium, leading through to a double bedroom; and the other side is beautifully fitted as a kitchen/sitting room, double bedroom and a bathroom.
The house was decorated throughout with Ralph Lauren Wallpaper and Farrow & Ball paint. The carpets are all from Winchester contractors, and the oak is all Winchester joinery. Windows have solid oak window frames with aluminium double glazing; there are also remote control blinds built into the double glazing in the master bedroom, cinema room and living room.
This home has almost entirely underfloor heating. There is Sonos and Opus Systems sound throughout the house and gardens; fully programmable bespoke garden lighting; Cat5 cabling; remote control drop down cinema screen, built in Play Stations and gaming devices.
The property is approached via large electronic oak security gates, leading into a tar and chip driveway, where there is ample parking and garaging. You drive into the attractive courtyard, with the house, garaging and outbuildings/annexes forming three sizes of a square.
The rear gardens are extremely private, overlooking fields and paddocks, and are mainly south and west facing. The owner has proudly laid it with Rolawn Turf and is similar to that used at Wembley Stadium. There is a mulberry tree-lined garden path leading down to the vegetable gardens, where there is a specialised Greenhouse which is heated, ventilated and irrigated all year around, and apple trees. The terrace has a large seating area with a woodfired pizza oven, barbecues and refrigeration area. There is a Breeze Hut, with heating, which the owner intends to leave fully furnished (apart from the soft furnishings), fitted with a television screen and Sub-zero drinks fridge, which makes a wonderful all year round retreat. There is also a Master Spa Hot Tub, screened from the house, and outside lighting, and a garden shed for garden equipment.
There is a wealth of security features. These include a new bespoke alarm and CCTV system, linking to the police station. The Master Bedroom door has a steel Safe-style door for the utmost protection; monitored entrance gates; and gun and key safes.
