The Den is a fine house which has evolved over the centuries to provide a delightful family home. The original 16th century timber-framed house combines beautifully with later Georgian additions to give a pleasing balance of character and elegance. Together with a separate annexe, the property offers extremely comfortable accommodation.
A bright entrance hall sits between two reception rooms to the front of the house. A wide timber arch in the dining room frames a full height glass panel looking through to the rear hall with mellow brick flooring. The study has fitted shelves and cupboards to either side of an ornate fireplace. To the rear of the hall a welcoming breakfast room and kitchen provide a fantastic family space at the heart of the house, loosely divided by open studwork.
The formal drawing room is an elegant room with a marble fireplace and a large bay window with French doors leading to the garden. Double doors open to a music room which in turn returns to rear hall where a pair of pretty arched doors lead to the cellar, boot room and cloakroom. A wide half glazed door opens to the garden.
Stairs rise to a bright landing with three good sized bedrooms and a very generous family bathroom set to the back of the house. The master bedroom to the front has a similarly generous en-suite and a dressing room. A further guest bedroom is also en-suite.
The Coach House
The Coach House is set to one side of a courtyard where there is a studio with a high ceiling and full height glazed doors and windows to one side. A door leads to a sitting room with doors opening to a terrace and the kitchen/breakfast room. On the first floor is a large bedroom with an en-suite shower room.
The Den is set in the heart of the Conservation Area of Tunstall village, and is conveniently located to access the station and shops at Sittingbourne, where trains on the High Speed link travel to London St Pancras in under an hour; the station also provides services to London Bridge, Victoria and Cannon Street. Ebbsfleet International, via the M2, offers High Speed services to London and access to Eurostar services.
A wide range of schooling is available in Sittingbourne, Maidstone, Rochester, Faversham and Canterbury, all of which also provide shopping and recreational facilities.
The M2 can be joined at Junction 5. The Channel Tunnel at Folkestone and Port of Dover provide regular crossings to the Continent, both can be reached via the M2/M20. Ashford International station is about 19 miles to the east.
The gardens are divided in to distinct areas providing structure and seclusion with different spaces to enjoy. A formal, walled garden to the side of the house, viewed from the drawing room, is laid to lawn with established borders. A gravelled courtyard is set between the house, garaging, coach house and a pretty thatched outbuilding.
An arch through a brick wall leads to a large terrace and further lawns bordered by clipped hedging. The eye is drawn through a tall conifer hedge to a further 'room' with established shrub borders and an expanse of lawn. There is also a vegetable garden with a greenhouse and raised beds.
